The Magic of Disney World

Welcome to the Magical Place we call Walt Disney World

Enchanted Tiki Room – Under New Management8

Posted by Kathi in Adventureland,Magic Kingdom (July 18, 2006 at 5:10 pm)

Ah, the Enchanted Tiki Room… that magical place where “the birds sing words and the flowers croon”.  Okay, so magical maybe isn’t the right word.  Maybe the word I’m looking for is “air-conditioned”.  Never underestimate the power of an air conditioned room in the middle of summer in Florida.  Anyhow… back to the Tiki Room.

The Enchanted Tiki Room was one of Disney’s first attempts at anamatronics.  The show stayed the same at both Disneyland and Disney World for a long time, until finally the imagineers at Walt Disney World decided a new story line was in order.  So they brought in the big guns… Zazu from The Lion King and Iago from Aladin.  (more…)

Family Magic Tour3

Disney’s Family Magic Tour is a fun romp through the Magic Kingdom, complete with a treasure hunt and character guides. Although I haven’t been on the tour personally, it sounds like a blast! It’s $27.00 a person (plus park admission), and it’s open to everyone. Since I haven’t actually taken the tour, here’s a link to They have several first hand accounts from families who have.

Tours and Other Experiences — Descriptions

When Walt dreamed up the idea of Epcot (Experimental Prototype Community of Tommorow, for those who didn’t know…. or as one of our bus drivers said, Every Pocketbook Comes Out Thinner), he wanted a community where people could see the future of technology. Yeah, I know it was a confusing sentence. We’re back to Walt now. Unfortunately, technology changes so fast it’s impossible to build a whole attraction with cutting edge technology. By the time you build it, it’s out of date. Bummer. So Disneyworld Imagineers created Innoventions, (more…)

Walt Disney World Marathon and Half Marathon3

Posted by Kathi in Annual Disney World Events,Disney World in General (January 14, 2006 at 7:02 pm)

People migrate to Disneyworld for many reasons: Rides, Ambiance, Food, Entertainment…. and Running. Okay, so running wouldn’t be top on my list of reasons to visit Disneyworld, but it is for many. Every year, Disneyworld hosts a marathon and a half marathon. Running a marathon anywhere isn’t exactly my style, but I have to admit…. if I were to run one, this would be the place! You can’t beat the atmosphere, at any rate.

The Disneyworld Marathone begins just east of Epcot and circles through all four parks before ending up back at Spaceship Earth. (more…)

Ski Patrol Training Camp2

Posted by Kathi in Blizzard Beach,Disney Water Parks (January 6, 2006 at 1:04 pm)

In a high thrills water park such as Blizzard Beach, what do you do with kids who are too old for the kiddie area and a little too young for the larger slides? At Blizzard Beach, you send them to the Ski Patrol Training Camp, an area made especially for pre-teens. It’s a fun little area, and kids from about 7 to 11 will find a lot of things to do.

There’s an “old pipe” that kids can slide down and drop into 8 feet of water. There’s an iceburg course (more…)

WDW At Large – One Size Does Not Fit All!47

Human beings come in all shapes, sizes and colors. It doesn’t affect who we are, but sometimes your size will affect your theme park experience. I found a wonderful guide for people who are a bit larger than average. I thought it was informative… check it out for yourself!

Astro Orbiter4

Posted by Kathi in Magic Kingdom,Tomorrowland (September 20, 2005 at 2:21 pm)

Just like Dumbo, Astro Orbiter is a hub and spoke attraction where you go round and round a central point while raising and lowering your vehicle. In this case, it’s a rocket ship turning around planets instead of a flying elephant spinning around a small rodent named Timothy, but the concept is the same.

Personally, I think that the elephants have more charm and appeal. Astro Orbiter does have the advantage of being placed above ground level, which gives you a nice view of Tomorrowland as you circle. (more…)

Dumbo The Flying Elephant23

Posted by Kathi in Fantasyland,Magic Kingdom ( at 10:09 am)

There’s something about Dumbo the Flying Elephant that attracts small children like bears to honey. I don’t know what it is…Dumbo is a simple hub and spoke attraction. Sixteen flying elephants circle around a central point, as you control the up and down motion. It’s pretty basic, and it’s one of the few attractions at Disneyworld that is geared just for kids. If you have a child between the ages of 2 and 8, don’t count on skipping Dumbo. It won’t happen.

I like Dumbo…it’s cute and whimsical. I have to admit, (more…)

Pirates of the Caribbean3

Posted by Kathi in Adventureland,Magic Kingdom (September 19, 2005 at 6:33 pm)

Pirates of the Caribbean was such a hit at Disneyland park in California, Disney Imagineers decided to create a version for the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. They had to make a few revisions because of the water table in Florida, but the result is basically the same.

Guests board boats for a 10 minute cruise into a town where pirates have taken over. The pirates themselves are cutting edge anamatronics…or at least they were when they were created. (more…)

Mickey’s Country House4

Posted by Kathi in Magic Kingdom,Mickey's Toontown Fair (September 14, 2005 at 12:46 pm)

Ever wondered how Mickey Mouse lives? Apparently the Imagineers at Disneyworld did…and the house that they put together is a lot of fun, both for kids and adults.

Disney is very good at making things appealing on two levels…one level for kids, and another for adults. Mickey’s Country House is a lot like that. There are the obvious jokes…the kitchen that Donald and Goofy are remodeling (remind me not to hire them for my next project!), the ears on all the vegetables, (more…)
