The Magic of Disney World

Welcome to the Magical Place we call Walt Disney World

Tower of Terror0

The following was written by my 13 year old son. The Tower of Terror is one of his favorite rides.

The Tower of Terror is fun terror ride based on the TV series “The Twilight Zone”.

First, you go through a spider web-filled hallway of a luxurious hotel called the Hollywood Tower Hotel. Once you get through the hallway along with a large group of people, you enter another web-filled room and the door locks behind you. All of a sudden, (more…)

Kali River Rapids0

Disneyworld has its share of rides where the guest ends up wet, either partially or thoroughly. Kali river rapids belongs in the thoroughly wet, drenched beyond belief, shoes squishing for the next hour catagory. But it’s a lot of fun.

Kali River Rapids begins as a nice, tranquil float through a rain forest. There are twelve people per circular raft. As the ride progresses, you see that huge chunks of the rain forest have been gutted by loggers. And to top it all off, your raft is headed for a pile of burning logs. Part of the fun of Kali River Rapids is the surprising twists and turns, so I won’t say any more.

You’ll either get wet or soaked, depending on where you sit in the raft. (more…)

Service Disney Style0

Just like every other company out there, the Disney corporation is not perfect. They have faults and things to work on. But one thing that Disney does exceptionally well is treat their guests like every one is the most important person in the world. On our last trip to Disneyworld, my family and I saw many examples of exceptional customer service. I’ll just talk about a couple, since I don’t want to be writing all day and you don’t want to be reading all day, either.

Our first day at Epcot, my son left his fanny pack in the restroom. We reported it to Guest Services and they had it by the end of the day, but that’s not the story. The story is: my son had his Epcot passport in that pack. An Epcot passport, for those who don’t know, is a little passport book with pages and stickers for each of the World Showcase countries. Each country operates a Kidcot station, where kids can sit down and do a craft from each country, as well as get their passport stamped and written in by a native of that country. It’s really a neat idea, and my kids were looking forward to it. Anyway, (more…)

Honey, I Shrunk the Audience0

The first 3-D film I saw in a Disney theme park was “Captain Eeo”, the completely forgettable Michael Jackson film that ran at Disneyland for a short time. So, needless to say, my expectations of “Honey, I Shrunk the Audience” weren’t overly high when I walked into the theatre. Thankfully, the Disney imagineers out did themselves with this one. They call it 3-D, but it’s actually more like 4-D. Not only do the images on the screen jump out at you, but (more…)

Journey Into Imagination with Figment0

Posted by Kathi in Epcot, Future World (March 2, 2005 at 7:56 am)

If you’ve been to Disneyworld before, you’ll remember Figment, the little purple dragon that used to have his own ride in the Imagination Pavilion. When Disney imagineers geared up for the Millennial Celebration, they decided that Figment’s ride needed to be redesigned. Which would be fine, except that they completely cut poor little Figment out of the ride. And anything else interesting. Fans from all over the world protested: How could Disney drop Figment? And how could they replace him with a ride so utterly boring and without…um…imagination? (more…)

Imagine!0

The Imagination Pavilion at Epcot Future World doesn’t get much press, except among us die hard Disney fans. The Imagination Pavilion is one of the quirkiest, most underrated pavilions in future World, in my humble opinion.

Inside the pavilion you’ll find two attractions, “Honey, I Shrunk the Audience” and “Journey Into Imagination with Figment”, as well as a “play” area equally fun for kids and adults called “Imageworks: ‘What If’ Labs. (more…)

Are things really what they seem?0

Look carefully at the buildings in Walt Disney World, and you’ll notice something interesting: not everything is how it seems at first glance. Disneyworld uses an architectural design trick called forced perspective, which essentially fools our brains into seeing what Walt wants us to see. Here’s some examples: (more…)

Main Street, U.S.A.0

Posted by Kathi in Magic Kingdom, Main Street, U.S.A. ( at 6:48 am)

Walking through the front gates of the Magic Kingdom is so much like turning back the hands of time it’s almost scary. Not that I actually lived during the turn of the century (well, not that century anyway), but Main Street U.S.A. is what a small rural town should have looked like in 1900 America. I’m sure none of them did, but this is Disney and I’m willing to put reality aside, smell the cookies, and get caught up in the magic. (more…)

Disneyworld: The Happiestest Place on Earth0

Posted by Kathi in Disney World in General ( at 5:40 am)

Okay, so I know that Walt Disney named Disneyland “The Happiest Place on Earth”, but that was before Disneyworld came along. I’m sure Walt would make up a clever and catchy phrase to describe Disneyworld, but I like to keep things simple so I’ll just call it “The Happiestest Place on Earth”.

I love Walt Disney World. There are so many things to do, and see, and experience that I could spend months there and still not want to come home. Or course, I’d be broke and living on the streets if I did that, but let’s not go there :) (more…)
