Just as you cross under Oldengate Bridge (that would be the giant brachiosaurus skeleton), you’ll reach a sign…ummm…a giant shoulder blade…announcing The Boneyard. The Boneyard is a giant, creative playground where children (and adults, if they don’t mind stooping) can run, jump, slide and work off some steam.
As you enter The Boneyard, look to your right, just behind the jeep. There’s a set of fossilized bones set into the wall called the Xylobone (wasn’t that punny?) Knock on a rib bone to play a note.
The Boneyard also has “archaelogical digs” (big sand pits) where children can dig for dinosaur bones. Most children love this: you might have a difficult time tearing them away!
The Boneyard sports prehistoric slides, rope bridges, and giant footprints that roar when you step in them. It’s meant for children over 4 and under 12, but any age can find something to do. Even parents…resting in the shade with lemonade while your children happily play comes to mind!
The Boneyard spans over a half acre, so it’s easy to lose little ones. There’s only one entrance and exit, though, so you know they won’t wander off into the park. In addition, The Boneyard can get hot, especially in the summer months, so bring water and make an attempt at dragging your kids into the shade periodically.
