Pocahontas and Her Forest Friends

Of all the shows in Animal Kingdom, Pocahontas and Her Forest Friends was my least favorite. Not that is isn’t cute, or informative, but I saw it as a cute little piece of fluff. Kind of like cotton candy. It’s yummy, but not much substance.

Anyway, Pocahontas and Her Forest Friends starts out with a conversation between Pocahontas and Grandmother Willow. They are trying to figure out a way to save the forest and its animals from destruction. According to a Native American legend, there is one animal that has the power to save the forest, but they don’t know which one. Grandmother Willow tells Pocahontas to ask the animals, so Pocahontas sets out to ask them.

The show uses real animals: a porcupine, a rabbit, a possum, a racoon, a skunk, a turkey, and a snake. The animals are trained, of course, and they wander on and off the stage intermittently. Trained animals are always cute, and these ones are no different. Young children will go ga-ga over the cute little animals doing funny things.

In the end, Pocahontas and Grandmother Willow find out that the only animals that can save the forest are, as all of you have guessed, humans. Environmentally sound…and really cute in the process. Kids will love it. Teens will tolerate it. And adults will think, “Awww…cute” and promptly forget it. But it’s definately worth watching. Once.
