Summit Plummet, found at Blizzard Beach, is the ultimate in speed slides. You may recognize it…anyone who has seen pictures of Disneyworld has seen Summit Plummet. Guaranteed. It looks like a ski jump. In fact, my children wondered if people actually were launched off the jump, because it really looks like they are. No, the slide goes under the jump, but I have to admit, it’s a really cool effect.
Summit Plummet is not for the faint of heart. It begins 120 feet up in the air, for one thing. For another, you’ll travel about 60 miles per hour straight down the slide. It’s the ultimate thrill slide, especially for adrenaline junkies.
I, of course, had to go on it. Not that I’m an adrenaline junkie, because I’m not, but merely because it was there. I couldn’t go home and admit that I was right there and didn’t even try it. So I went down it. Once. It was a thrill, and were it not for the fact that my back hurt from the high speed water spray, I actually would have gone again. But….ouch. That’s one thing they don’t warn you about.
The other thing they don’t warn you about is the risk of losing your swimsuit top, if you are a woman and happen to be wearing a two piece suit. A word to the wise, if you don’t like being completely exposed at the bottom of the slide, you might want to consider wearing a one piece at Blizzard Beach. Just a thought.
