While Epcot has the distinction of having the most diverse and culturally genuine restaurants, Disney MGM Studios holds the title for the most creative and fun eateries. One of my family’s favorites is the Sci-Fi Dine In Theatre.
The Sci-Fi Dine In Theatre is set up as an old fashioned drive in theatre. Guests sit in cars to eat their dinner. All the cars face toward a big screen, where snippets of truly awful sci fi movies run in a continuous loop. I think the industry term is “B movies”. Whatever rating they’re given, they’re bad. But they’re bad in such a fun, ludicrous way that you just can’t help but enjoy them.
The food we had was good…it wasn’t five star cuisine, but it was tasty. The kids talked us into the souvenier cups, which have plastic, light up ice in them. They’re fun, and they fit the surroundings. Like any Disney restaurant, there are plenty of food choices for both children and adults.
The fun at the Sci-Fi Dine In Theatre comes from the atmosphere. They’ve done a great job of making the building look like an outdoor drive in theatre. It’s just a lot of Disney fun for parents and children. And hey…isn’t eating in a restaurant more fun for the adults when the chilren are entertained?
