Sci-Fi Dine In Theatre0

While Epcot has the distinction of having the most diverse and culturally genuine restaurants, Disney MGM Studios holds the title for the most creative and fun eateries. One of my family’s favorites is the Sci-Fi Dine In Theatre.

The Sci-Fi Dine In Theatre is set up as an old fashioned drive in theatre. Guests sit in cars to eat their dinner. All the cars face toward a big screen, where snippets of truly awful sci fi movies run in a continuous loop. I think the industry term is “B movies”. Whatever rating they’re given, they’re bad. Who Wants to Be a Millionaire - Play It!0

Posted by Kathi in Disney MGM Studios (May 24, 2005 at 1:48 pm)

There aren’t many people who don’t remember the “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” craze that swept the nation a few years ago. At our house, we collected the computer game, and both the children’s version and the adult version of the board game. Who Wants to Be a Millionaire - Play It! takes the concept of the game show and tweaks it just a little bit to make it easier for Disney guests to play.

Disney Imagineers have gone all out to recreate the look and feel of the original game show. (more…)

Jim Henson’s Muppet*Vision 3-D0

Posted by Kathi in Disney MGM Studios (May 13, 2005 at 12:07 am)

I grew up watching the Muppets. Most of the people in my age group did (I’m 33, in case anyone was wondering). I watched Sesame Street…and saw the Muppets take Manhattan. So I was intrigued by a 3-D Muppet Adventure. With all the zany stunts that Muppets pull, 3-D seemed like just the right format for their constant wackiness. And it is. Muppet*Vision 3-D gives you nonstop 3-D action…actually 4-D action…and at the same time the show is tame enough that you don’t have to worry about it scaring your kids. There’s a loud noise at the end, but that’s pretty small on the scariness factor.

Before the show, (more…)

Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure0

Even if you haven’t seen the movie, “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids”, this playground will charm and entertain you. Oh…and it’ll really entertain your kids!

This soft surface playground creates a whole world in which you have the perspective of an ant. Look around and you will find 30 foot blades of grass, tree sized paper clips, and house sized legos. Kids have the chance to explore caves (located under the giant mushroom), climb spiderwebs, and (more…)

Playhouse Disney - Live on Stage!0

Posted by Kathi in Disney MGM Studios ( at 12:07 pm)

We walked into Playhouse Disney, not because we had small children with us, but because we were determined to visit each and every one of the shows and attractions at each of the theme parks. The youngest child with us was 7 at the time, and since we don’t have the Disney Channel, we didn’t really know who any of the characters in Playhouse Disney were. With that background, or lack of background, Playhouse Disney was one of my least favorite attractions in Disney MGM Studios.

The show was well done. Everyone sits (more…)

Fantasmic!0

The following was written by my 9 year old son:

Fantasmic! is a show that takes place at night because it has fireworks, lasers, special effects and fountains at places in the show. It starts with Mickey in a dream appearing on a mountain and, with sparks coming from his fingertips, conducts a series of dancing fountains. But then the Disney Villains take over and turn Mickey’s dreams into nightmares! Mickey battles with them until the final battle when he battles Malefecient the Dragon and finally prevails over all of them at last!

Fantasmic! is full of fun things to watch but be prepared to be waiting a long time to get out of the theater (unless you sit in the back of course!). (more…)

Height Requirements0

Anyone with small children eventually wonders about height restrictions. So here it is: A comprehensive list of all of the parks. Boring, but necessary. (more…)

Rock-N-Roller Coaster0

The following was written by my 9 year old son.

The Rock-N-Roller Coster starts with a short movie about a band who took off for a concert before you could hop in the limosine. So you need to ride in another one taking off at a crazy 60 mph and get to that speed in 2.8 seconds.

Be sure to smile at the begining– They take your picture at the start of the ride and you have a chance to buy it at the end. (more…)

Tower of Terror0

The following was written by my 13 year old son. The Tower of Terror is one of his favorite rides.

The Tower of Terror is fun terror ride based on the TV series “The Twilight Zone”.

First, you go through a spider web-filled hallway of a luxurious hotel called the Hollywood Tower Hotel. Once you get through the hallway along with a large group of people, you enter another web-filled room and the door locks behind you. All of a sudden, (more…)
