The Magic of Disney World

Welcome to the Magical Place we call Walt Disney World

The Barnstormer0

Posted by Kathi in Magic Kingdom, Mickey's Toontown Fair (June 15, 2005 at 1:46 pm)

When Mickey built his Toontown Fair, Goofy decided it would be the ideal place to plant his farm. Thus, Goofy’s Wiseacre Farm was created.

The premise of The Barnstormer is simple. Guests climb into crop dusters and follow Goofy’s flight path. Sounds easy enough, but remember that this is Goofy’s flight path. His route includes a small detour crashing through the barn. (more…)

Tomorrowland Indy Speedway0

Posted by Kathi in Magic Kingdom, Tomorrowland (June 7, 2005 at 9:03 pm)

The Tomorrowland Indy Speedway caters to every little kid’s dream…driving a real car. Well…they’re close to real cars, anyway. They’re a bit smallish, have no brake, and run on a track, but other than that, it’s just like the real thing.

Anyway, whether it’s like real driving or not, kids get a kick out of the Indy Speedway. You have to be 52″ tall to drive…which basically means you have to be tall enough to reach the gas pedal. (more…)

The Magic Carpets of Aladdin0

Posted by Kathi in Magic Kingdom, Adventureland (May 28, 2005 at 3:51 pm)

I can describe The Magic Carpets of Aladdin in three words: Aladdin themed Dumbo. Instead of flying elephants, we have flying carpets. Instead of Timothy the mouse on a hot air balloon, we have a magic lamp. Aladdin did add spitting camels, though…that was a nice touch.

The Magic Carpets of Aladdin is a hub and spoke ride, just like Dumbo the Elephant. (more…)

Jungle Cruise0

Posted by Kathi in Magic Kingdom, Adventureland (May 26, 2005 at 6:24 pm)

What can I say about Jungle Cruise? It remains one of my favorite rides, despite the jerky anamatronics and the horribly punny boat operators. Anyone who has been on Jungle Cruise (and that’s probably most of you, considering there’s a Jungle Cruise both at Disneyworld and at Disneyland) knows that if you’re looking for realistic, thrilling sights and masterful storytelling…you’re looking in entirely the wrong place.

Jungle Cruise is a whole lot of fun, if you’ll relax and take it for what it’s worth. (more…)

The Electrical Water Pageant1

Posted by Kathi in Magic Kingdom, Disney Hotels, Disney World in General (May 25, 2005 at 4:35 pm)

Although The Electrical Water Pageant isn’t as elaborate and flashy as most of the other Disneyworld parades, it definately has a charm all its own. The Water Pageant circles around Bay Lake on a nightly basis. The parade consists of fourteen barges carrying 25 foot tall images made up of lights. It begins with King Triton, and then we see lots of sea creatures, such as dolphins, turtles, whales, seahorses, and the ever popular sea monster. (He’s my personal favorite). (more…)

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad0

Posted by Kathi in Magic Kingdom, Frontierland (May 18, 2005 at 8:34 pm)

The following was written my my nine year old son:

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is certainly hard not to spot. It is the ONLY attraction that looks like the rock formations in the state of Mississippi. According to the legend, the mine the ride takes place in is chalk full of gold, and, according to legend, there are prospectors looking for it. But, according to the floods that are happening, they are forbidden to search any longer. So the prospectors, unafraid of the floods, went to party in the saloon over their riches, before they find higher ground. (more…)

The Hall of Presidents0

Posted by Kathi in Magic Kingdom, Liberty Square (April 27, 2005 at 11:51 am)

I have to admit…the first time I visited Disneyworld I slept through the Hall of Presidents. Call it jet lag, call it trying to fit too many things into a small time frame…I sat down in a comfortable chair, they turned out the lights, and my eyes developed a will of thier own.

That being said…the second time I visited I made sure I was well rested and I stayed awake. The Hall of Presidents really is an interesting attraction, even though it’s not full of thrills and excitement.

It begins with a film about the Constitution. After the movie, (more…)

Mad Tea Party0

Posted by Kathi in Magic Kingdom, Fantasyland (April 25, 2005 at 1:59 pm)

The Mad Tea Party is one of the most well known rides in the Magic Kingdom. It’s a simple ride, really… a carnival fun ride. The magic lies in the theming that Disney puts with the ride.

The Mad Tea Party was inspired by the Disney animated film, “Alice In Wonderland”. If you remember the film (those of us with DVD players and small children have no problem with this point), (more…)

It’s a Small World0

Posted by Kathi in Magic Kingdom, Fantasyland (April 5, 2005 at 1:28 pm)

“It’s a world of laughter, a world of tears…” It’s the one song guaranteed to stick in your mind for hours, if not days, after experiencing It’s a Small World. Small World was built for the World Fair in New York in 1964-1965. Despite it’s age and lack of high tech thrills, It’s a Small World remains a favorite of Disneyworld guests young and old.

As you enter It’s a Small World, you’ll board a boat that moves at about the pace of a slug. Which is good, in a way, because (more…)

Splash Mountain0

Posted by Kathi in Magic Kingdom, Frontierland ( at 11:51 am)

My 9 year old son wrote the following:

Splash Mountain is from the Adventures of Disney’s Brer Rabbit. For those of you who have not heard of Brer Rabbit, he is a fun loving and mischiefmaking Rabbit (of course) that lives on the ‘Ole plantation. At the end, if you pay attention you will find that you are in the last part of one of the Brer Rabbit storys “The tar baby”. Where you are thrown into a brier patch! Not really but you will see brier spines in front of you during the Five story drop that WILL get you soaked especially if you are sitting in the front. Why I liked this ride was because (more…)
